I miss Dick Cheney.
Sure, the now-deceased Former Vice President was corrupt, cruel and heartless (no, seriously, Cheney replaced his pacemaker, defibrillator and eventually his entire cardiac infrastructure with a factory-refurbished ticker that probably ran on fossil fuels and blood diamonds). But compared to Donald Trump, Cheney’s old-school, mustache-twirling evil almost seems quaint.
Friday’s Wake-Up Call began with a discussion on how our perception of evil has changed since the tangerine tyrant began his second term. We also talked about the history of Black cowboys, how I got involved with the upcoming Jordan Peele production, ranking HBCU homecomings and why the Black church is not necessarily a religious institution.
Today’s reading list:
The Wild Life of the Last Black Jockey to Rule the Kentucky Derby, by Pat Forde
Of the Faith of the Fathers, by W.E.B. Du Bois
How the Negro Spiritual Changed American Popular Music – And America Itself, by Vann Newkirk
