Abraham Lincoln invited Frederick Douglass to the White House on two occasions: August 1863 and August 19, 1864. The first meeting focused on Douglass's concerns about the treatment and pay of black Union soldiers, while the second involved Douglass's potential role in helping enslaved people escape to freedom.

You are correct that Douglas’s was the first Black person to be invited and visit the White House, but Michael is also correct that Washington was the first Black person to eat there, which he made clear.
