Keeping It 100
Here's a look at what ContrabandCamp accomplished in our first 100 days and where we're headed.
A racism database, movie reviews and an earth-shattering literary analysis from a Pulitzer Prize-winner. An exclusive preview of a New York Times bestseller. Conversations with activists, actors and election analysts. Primary sources and first-person accounts of history. News, opinion and original reporting. Content from professors, pundits, physicians and policymakers.
These are just a few examples of the content ContrabandCamp has delivered to readers since launching a mere 100 days ago. In a time when democracy, freedom, and the institution of journalism are crumbling before our eyes, we published 99 pieces from more than 40 unique Black perspectives. More importantly, you helped us provide a platform and fair compensation for dozens of journalists, truth-tellers, creators and often-ignored voices.
We did that.
You. Me. Us. This ContrabandCamp.
While we are proud of our progress, there is still much work to do. ContrabandCamp does not receive advertising revenue. We have no investors, donors or venture capital funding. Because we are entirely self-funded, we will begin the second phase of our plan — expanding our offerings to paid subscribers on today, May 1.
What does this mean?
For paid subscribers, nothing will change. In fact, you will see more content in the coming days. Free subscribers will still have access to some content, but they will experience limited access to certain articles, videos and other offerings starting today. This will help us continue to pay the journalists, editors and other costs associated with our project
We have always believed that we could create a sustainable community for speaking truth to power. You helped prove that it is possible.
Thank you for camping with us.
I'm in!
I am a proud paid subscriber and also paid for your book I am reading this weekend, "Woke AF." Thank you Mr. Herriott.
