Thanks for the history lesson. I would love for you to come on my podcast and talk about your book, Contraband Camp, Draeptomanix and the state of journalism.
I am not hopeful about my country, Michael Harriot keeps me from despair. I prefer the light, even seeing the horror that is the USA, more than living in darkness, seeing only shadows, stumbling through life.
May I see what I need to see & have the courage to act.
I want to know, can any white people be other than enemies? What do we do of we see equal with in people of all colors and cultures? I have run into the Whites are haters and the enemy for most of my 76 years and have held resentment for any groups. Maybe my Southern relatives.
Well, I participated in a protest against the firing of Ray Winbush at Cleveland State University in 1990. If you remember those protests in the 1960s where you saw white clergy marching, most of the time, no one knew their names. That’s what I did with that protesting; I showed up, asked what we were doing, and I was just another person executing the plan. We agreed in our group cell after being arrested for protesting inside a mall one of the university trustees ran that some of us would get out and do a press conference. I volunteered for it and that’s where it all ended. I just did as I was asked to do. I don’t think I even wrote what I had to say. I told my high school classmates about it in my first HS reunion, but again, just said what I did and left it at that. I’ve been called a real one, but I know well I have to serve the good, I just carry what light I can into the world and I can’t stop doing that. It’s not about me, it’s about the good. Lucifer never understood that. It doesn’t take anything away from your skepticism; those people you describe earned it, and I’m sorry you experienced that. I can do no more and no less than putting as much good into the world as I can and keeping a humble eye out for when I don’t and fixing that. I grew up in a very white environment in which teaching about these things wasn’t a priority, it was just about being a good person, it wasn’t about why you did or didn’t do certain things in a wider context. It certainly didn’t involve teaching about the civil rights movement for any group, nor was it about segregation or any other discrimination. If I can learn what I have, anyone can. I just try to lead by my example, and I have been told that that example did not go unnoticed. I was humbled to hear that. I just want and will always want everyone to have the same opportunities I have had and my family has had.
Not a single lie told at all! Crazy is expecting this country and the white that fill it to ever willingly do the right thing by us. We should've chose revenge all those years ago.
Master class, Mr Harriott. Well done.
Wow.
Thanks for researching the actual skinny on the life of Lead Belly (Huddie Ledbetter.)
It is still a jolt how exploitation reaches so far down into relationships which have a power imbalance.

Once again, No lies here.

So disappointed in AOC. Stay Woke (1.0) Alexandra! True assessment Mr. Harriot. Learned a lot about Led Belly too. Great writing as usual. Thank you!
And once the word “woke” was in their hands, it meant something totally different, white people code for talking to each other.
Wow. Just wow. What a masterpiece!
"Everytime we create something it's co-oped, "Whitened", and destroyed. Leave us TF alone!

I am going to say nothing (further).

The word and meaning needs to be taken back. Inequality is not going anywhere, neither is the gaslighting.
