I've reflected on the same question and, initially, also came up with the mid-1950s. Later, I revised it back to 1920,when racism and celebrating insurrectionists was really big, and a pandemic killed many. Then, I revised it to the 1890s, the time of the Gilded Age Robber Barons, child labor, high tariffs, Jim Crow, and women unable to vote. Then, I revised it back to the 1850s, the time of slavery, expropriating regions of the continent, and deporting Native Americans to various obscure regions of the country. Finally, I've settled on the 1750s as the time Trump would most favor - - when there were no declared human rights to have to abolish; no Constitution to have to dismantle; no elections to have to subvert; and no other branches of government to corrupt - - because America was ruled by a dictator, a King, a tyrant - - and that would be about the greatest thing for Donnie! Grandiosity 24/7, total entitlement to everything, total immunity from crimes he wanted to commit, he'd be free to grab wenches anytime he wanted, he could put standing armies in every hamlet, and any naysayers could be put in stocks or better yet, just hung. So that's my vote!
