It is with great anticipation that I have been waiting for this documentary. I have been a fan since my first album, "Last Days and Times." This is the album I discovered the talent of Ronnie Laws (yes, the jazz saxophonist contributed to this beautiful piece of soul music). My favorite song about a mother, "Mom," is my inspirational Mother's Day song. There is a beautiful harp, organ, and guitar solo on this cut. It is the last song on side two of the vinyl. I can't say enough about this album. I purchased every album after that one as a high schooler and young adult. I was fortunate to see them in concert (1979 Seattle Center Arena, Seattle, Washington), featuring a group founded by Maurice White, Pockets, Deniece Williams, The Emotions, and The Commodores (yes, they sang "Brick House" with the Miss Brick House contest). When the time finally came for EWF it was THE BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER SEEN! The instrumentation, special effects (Verdine playing the guitar levitated sideways and a space ship), and group collaboration (yes, they sang "Boogie Wonderland" with the Emotions) were PHENOMENAL!
I've been a "super fan" of EWF dating way back to the early 1970's with their debut album "EWF"! IMO, the "fire" left when Maurice moved on to a higher being.. Looking forward to watching the doc.
All I can say is, I’ve heard the music and I believe Maurice White. EVERY TIME I hear “September” I am filled with the Holy Ghost; I can’t explain it.
