I'm reading, for the second time, "Sky Full Of Elephants". Cebo Cambell writes beautifully and brilliantly. The book opens with white people committing mass suicide by walking into bodies of water. I took this as a metaphor of the Greek myth of the sirens call, and in this case the sirens call of white supremacy. I was found it delightful because it is exactly what we whites are doing right now., committing suicide by believing lies.
The last 2 minutes of this episode sounded like the end of a Toni Morrison novel. I feel you. It is kind of beautiful. Poetic even. I, too, will not swim in circles begging for food.
As a USAF Veteran, I feel validated, knowing that I have been sensing this since January 6, 2021.
The oppressors and the descendants of the Confederacy are not only tearing down the system, but they’re also eating each other. Disgusting, but long overdue. Among your brilliant list of questions, Michael, that we should be asking ourselves now is what will we build and create to effectively push through this together? We have the opportunity and we must coalesce around it. A slow-burning fire will eventually consume everything if we don’t extinguish it as soon as we see the embers.
As for the young man murdered for stealing a 98-cent bottle of damn water by an adult man, that situation reminded me of the Trevon Martin murder. Black people may not be valued by ignorant humans because ignorance and hatred don’t value anything, including and especially humanity.
They hate each other and, like you, I’m enjoying watching them slow-burn and eat each other’s faces.
