Michael you are a national treasure. As always, I'm grateful that you share yourself with this online community. I learn, I laugh, I'm inspired to think more deeply. I'm reminded to go on another day.
I really love and appreciate you and Contraband Camp. Been a reader/viewer of your other work for a long time. I stopped viewing MSM over 10 years ago and curate my information from scientists, international journalists/activists, Black media (my go to's are Elie Mystal, CC, Joyann Reid, Sherrilyn Ifil, Nicole Hannah-Jones, Misan Harriman, Imani Gandy, Terrell Jermaine Starr, The Humanity Archives...), etc. Anyway, as you were talking about the gap of how Black people are portrayed in the media, especially young people vs. the reality, I was thinking of a pertinent story right now, which is Chicago (Mayor Brandon Johnson) and Baltimore (Mayor Brandon Scott) have cut homicides, others crimes by huge percentages. Murder rates are at the lowest they've been in 50-60 years. They've done it through investing in youth, social programs, like summer youth jobs, etc., and crickets from MSM. It should be one of the biggest stories in the national media. But studies also show that if there is a local alleged shoplifting incident and accused is a Black person, it will be shown with much more regularity and attention by the national media. And we know all this, but it's good to have the data that supports it, and also the alternative news outlets and journalists, who are telling the truth. Again. Thank you. Appreciate you.
