The Supreme Court may gut yet another crucial section of the Voting Rights Act

The Supreme Court is set to make a decision that could gut a key section of the Voting Rights Act which makes it illegal to discriminate based on race in voting practices.

On Wednesday, the highest court heard arguments in Louisiana v. Callais, a case that challenges the constitutionality of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. It prevents gerrymandering by barring states from considering the racial makeup of voting populations when drawing district lines.
