Thank you for this post. Kristen Clarke did a parsimonious job as the head of The Lawyers Committee during the first 45/47 administration. We only had fair elections in 2020 because she spearheaded voting lawsuits in various red states. It was worth donating to this non-profit (The Lawyers Committee). I agree that if she had been the head of the DOJ, we would not be facing a second 45/47 administration.

I dove into the piece without reading the byline first and found myself thinking, "this sure sounds like Elie Mystal." So I checked and, well, yeah. Brilliant job, as usual.

I don’t know what to say, except I’m sorry. People of my skin color, 🤍mayo, can go straight to hell if they voted for the orange Nazi lover and his sycophants. I mean that. Reading this makes me sick to my stomach. Seeing who they are confirming to head these departments is nauseating. 😔.

Havent slept worth a damn since Jan 20th. Seems the only thing that brings me happiness is my basset hound and his unbridled happiness when I come home. These are scary times indeed…

I turned away from the republican party in 2017 because I had already had enough of the ignorance of the guy in office. To this day, I cannot fully embrace calling myself a democrat. Progressive liberal is more like it as I am so ready to shake up this country to it's core. Kumbaya across the aisle with a party of white nationalists does not an opposition party make.....

Which is why I do believe the outcome of this last election was not legit. There were way too may like you who wouldn't vote for him again.. election integrity is going to need some intense scrutiny going forward. I don't trust *rump & m*sk one iota.

I have to disagree about the last election. I've listened about the exit polls, and there were a number of new voters, young white and Latino men, voting for that menace. Disinformation has played a huge role in his win, they really played up Trans people coming to get you, the whole white christian nationalist movement is a Real thing, and musk was bribing people.

We must not forget gerrymandering and voter suppression do play a role, so in that regard, yes, they do a bit more than tinker, but the elections themselves have been solid. They are working on more voter suppression tactics, which could ensure they never lose.

"It" didn't win the popular vote by much, but of course the swing states, ugh.

I hear you, I used to feel the same. I've since read Stephen Spoonamore, Greg Palast ( he has documentary Vigilantes Inc), and am following ETA (Election Truth Alliance) (co-founder has youtube channel Dire Talks), and Smart Elections. You might be convinced. There is much evidence. Just need proof. The upcoming elections in WI and FL may give us more hope.

Elie Mystal’s writing should be required reading for any Democrat in office now or considering a future candidacy. Enough of the strongly worded letters and critical public statements already! Show us and tell us what is happening. Elie is making it plain!

Every time! Elie tells us like it is and with the needed vitriol in the current state of things. I am a paid subscriber to the Nation Magazine because his pieces are published there (and the articles by others are brilliant too). Elie Mystal’s writing why I’m on this Substack too. I need all my news with his vigor and clever quips presently because it’s gnarly out there and regular top news isn’t cutting it anymore.

What a powerful article. Thank you for giving Kristen Clarke her flowers. She got the job done for sure. I agree that Biden should have definitely given her the top job because she would have made it her business to put the orange clown behind bars where he belongs. I cringe thinking about the fact that Obama was gonna appoint Garland to the Supreme Court. He definitely would have been a total waste.

I think you’re brilliant and love hearing you telling it like it is.

Help us organize a General Strike/Boycott before he declares martial law. There are millions of us. We outnumber them. We need to shut this country down. And it has to be asap since he’s already organizing his storm troopers.

“I will believe until my dying day that if Joe Biden had picked Clarke for the top job as attorney general instead of Garland, Trump would be in jail right now instead of the White House.”

I will wish until my dying day that Biden had picked her instead of Merrick Garland!!!!
