Not quite to that section of the book yet, but I went ahead and read it because I always need to read Elie's take on things. And stand your ground laws are absurd

And I'll note that empowerment self defense is taught based on the principles "think, tell, run, fight, tell." Note that run comes before fight and think comes before everything.

Thank you for saying what I’ve always thought about castle doctrine: I’d rather be a coward and let someone have my shit than live with having killed someone. It’s such a stupid concept, that a human life is worth less than material goods (at least, in a non-zombie-apocalypse-survival scenario).

And also: castle doctrine doesn’t apply to women in abusive relationships. Or to people sleeping when the cops execute a no-knock warrant.

Great excerpt and an important read, especially for the men in society who are hyped up on machismo that has been propagated to them from the manosphere. More lives have been lost from individuals who felt they had to "Stand their ground" than simply walking away. It's a selfish act to try to fight fire with fire to satisfy your ego rather than retreating to live another day and see your family that night.

Duty to retreat is basically my plan if I'm in, say, a restaurant and someone with a gun enters. My plan is to get the hell out instantly, even without paying the bill first (I would pay it later, assuming the gunman didn't shoot me as I ran). My thinking is that I have no idea what the gunman's intent is – whether he's there to commit mass murder or is just insecure in public places. I have no need to wait to find out. I wouldn't yell or draw attention to the gunman (unless they seemed obviously intent on violence, with gun in hand); just sneak out ASAP.

Genghis Khan perfected the retreat and kicked all a#$ across Asia and Europe.

Isn’t it funny how the MAGAts can picture Jesus in Gethsemane, saying «Those who live by the sword die by the sword » into agolden Dr. Shitsenpants who defends what is Right with his AR 15. This, BTW, is how you can tell the whole NT Passion Narrative is a put-up job to foist the sins of Pilate, known as the Butcher of Palestine back home, in to a fair and noble judge upholding the honor of Rome against the wealsely Jews made into bloody thirsty Quislings. AS IF Jewish religious authorities would have considered it necessary to defend their god against WORDS using capital punishment!! The later rabbinic writings can barely bring themselves to find anyone guilty of a captal crime, and in fact view throwing the hapless Jew into the Roman maw as a form of retreat to spare the whole populace of Judah from slaughter. Losing one is the only decent thing to do with Roman Pilate rubbing his hands with glee at the chance to look good back in home by offing a whole region on flimsy religious grounds. Jesus H(ebrew) Christ! And for centuries we call it « Passion « …Yeah, for politically charged murder.

Interesting. Some of the definitions are hilarious. I find the "supreme" court to be among the most odious of corrupted groups.
